Abstract
¿Qué significó tomar la calle en la Guadalajara de fines del porfiriato y cómo era la calle que se tomó? En esa época, las calles tapatías eran las de una ciudad de poco más de 100 000 habitantes, que trata de entrar al siglo XX por la puerta europea. No sabe que la entrada al nuevo siglo será en realidad un tanto abrupta y que será, sobre todo, política. Antes, pues, de saberlo, es una ciudad que se está, en sentido técnico, modernizando: que se va, por trechos, asfaltando, para recibir al automóvil, y electrificando. La electricidad llega en 1907 al penal de Escobedo y a los tranvías, que hasta entonces habían sido los tradicionales "de mulitas".
